The deal would create one of the largest food packaging and processing equipment companies in the world. Tetra Pak's president, Bertil Hagman, said the friendly takeover bid would create 'the world's strongest industrial group aimed at the food industry.' Tetra Pak, founded in Sweden and now with headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, makes paper drink box containers. Alfa-Laval is a Swedish dairy and agricultural equipment manufacturer. Its two main shareholders - the real estate group LE Lundbergs A.B.

And the Wallenberg financial group - have accepted the bid. Hagman said there were no plans to replace Alfa- Laval's management or sell any of its units. Tetra Pak, owned by the Rausing family, has three plants and 750 workers in the United States. The company does not release profit figures. Tetra Pak makes paper and foil drink box packages purchased by a wide variety of customers, including Ocean Spray and Lipton, a company spokeswoman said.
